Berry Oatmeal Crumble

Howdy, so I have a treat for y’all (literally). I don’t know about you but breakfast can get a little boring from time to time. Especially if you’re like me and try to stay away from animal products. I saw this recipe on Deliciously Ella and made it into my own! Her site is absolutely awesome, definitely check it out! I named this dish the Berry Oatmeal Crumble simply because it taste a bit like a berry pie (but not quite.) OK here goes nothing.

 bb

Ingredients:

1 Cup of Oatmeal    1/3 Blueberries     1/4 Strawberries

1/4 Almond Milk   1 1/2 Ripe Bananas

1/2 of Chopped Dates (or raisins)

2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon     Handful of Walnuts

Directions:

Preheat Oven to 350

Pour oatmeal in a bowl then pour fresh boiling water into bowl covering the oatmeal. As your waiting for the oatmeal to absorb the water completely, go ahead and cut up your bananas, slice up your dates and crush your walnuts.

Once the oatmeal absorbs the water completely throw in your the remaining ingredients and mix.

Grease your pan and pour in your oatmeal berry crumble mix. If you want to make it look pretty slice up some banana slices and decorate!

Put your pan in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes on 350. Then take it out and let it cool for 20 to 30 minutes so it can harden (this is important.) AND that’s it easy peasy. Eat up my loves.

Are You Really Hungry?

hungry

As we all know, I love to eat. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I’m that girl who eats and eats until all the food is gone. It’s actually a problem that I’m currently working on. (Well kind of) Anyways when I do, I don’t feel too bad because most of the food I eat are unprocessed whole foods. Nevertheless, it’s still a problem.

I was watching Dr. Oz a while back, and on this particular show he addressed overeating. Basically saying that many people eat when they’re not even hungry. I’m guilty, yes. But Dr. Oz shared a tip that has really helped me figure out if I was “really” hungry. It’s called the apple test. It’s simple.

The Apple Test:

Before you head to the kitchen to crack open a package of Raman Noodles, first stop and ask yourself “If I only had a large apple in my kitchen would I eat it?” If the answer is no, then your’e not really hungry. If the answer is yes, put down those sodium filled Ramen Noodles and eat that apple. LOL Okay it doesn’t have to be an apple, but pick a healthy food.

I use the apple test daily, and it has stopped me from eating my life away. And that’s real.

More Tips:

Don’t mistake thirst for hunger: If you not sure if you are hungry, drink a glass of water first and wait a few minutes. If your still hungry eat up, if not you were probably just thirsty.

Don’t mistake being tired for hunger: I’m no doctor but when I’m tired I crave food. I think this is because my body needs the energy from food to keep me going. However if you’re tired it’s best to just nap or call it a night. But if you don’t have time for that, you know the deal. Grab something healthy and keep it moving.

Try to wait 2-3 hours between meals.

Don’t mistake boredom for hunger: A lot of times we are just bored, so we turn to our favorite thing to do… eat. Let’s get over that ish and instead when we’re bored let’s do something that will make us hot! Work out. Or simply do something that will help you reach your personal goals.

Don’t mistake stress for hunger: Today I was so frustrated to the point of almost crying, and immediately I started craving pizza. Yes, I wanted to eat my sorrows away. Let’s not do that, stress eating  brings Tina the Talking Tummy into the picture (and we don’t like her). Anyways I didn’t get the pizza, instead I turned my frustration into appreciation of everything that’s been going right. When you get stressed flip that mess around ASAP! Think positively, live in the moment and then you’ll soon realize that everything is not so bad. It’s going to be okay.

Self Magazine has an online decision tree that can help you find out if you are hungry or not. It will also give you an healthy option for the food you crave. I thought it was pretty cool. Check it out here.

A Healthy Treat & Me.

I wish that mini tummy pooches were sexy and that eating a lot didn’t add weight, that things just worked between you and the person you love, that money wasn’t necessary for everything, that it really didn’t matter what others think, that I can thrive in my dream job and be at total peace. I wish I wish oh how I wish. Life has its ups and downs, its twist in turns. And yeah, I am blessed and have absolutely nothing to complain about, but at times I feel myself caving in with sadness. So I pray I pray oh how I pray. Then I eat I eat oh how eat.

And this was my healthy treat today.

LOVING THE BODY YOUR IN

This blog is about leading a healthy lifestyle. Yes, there is a lot of talk about getting fit to obtain that hot body. But there is much more to this “healthy journey”  then just the outside appearance. Having a healthy lifestyle includes being healthy mentally as well. Honestly I am at a constant battle with myself to be happy with the body I’m in. I have this pesky little pouch on my tummy, that stubborn lower belly fat that seems so hard to get rid of. I’ve always thought to myself  “Oh,  I’ll be good when this teeny pouch is off my tummy.” But I realize why can’t I be happy now, the way I am. I’m living a holistic lifestyle and loving the way it’s making me feel on the inside. There’s just something so rewarding about knowing that the foods I eat are nurturing my body. Having a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean obsessing over your weight. It’s means creating a balance for your life spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Really take the time out to meditate on the beauty of life that God has blessed you with. Think positively, forget about the scale or the mirror. Work hard and you will see progress. This should be a happy healthy journey not an emotional roller coaster. Know you are beautiful at ever size, shape, and figure you are. Be more focused on the beauty that lies inside of you. Be kind, loving, genuine, and caring and that beauty will reflect on the outside. That beauty never goes away and is way better than the physical aspect. When you have peace of mind, you have it all. You’ll reach your goals. Just love your body, love this journey, and love this lovely life.

5 Ways to Stay Motivated

Ever since I was in high school I’ve been conscious of my eating habits, but I never remained consistent until now. I would be good for a month and then I would fall back into my old ways. I would be so motivated one day, but then the next, you could find me throwing some brownies in the oven (not healthy ones either). So what has changed since then? Well, honestly not much. Below are some simple tips of the slight changes I’ve made to keep me motivated.

1. Follow motivational people on  Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. I check Instagram countless times a day. And every time I scroll through my feed there are always motivational pictures about fitness and health. So even when I feel like I want to give up, those pictures get me in check. I mean, I can’t see a picture with a women who used to be 100 lbs over weight and now looks like a model and not work out.

2. Surround yourself with people who seek the same goals as you. All of my friends are on the route to lead a healthier lifestyle. We work out together, inspire each other, and educate each other about this healthy journey. And let’s face it, when you see your friend’s body transform it motivates you even more. (She can’t be the only one looking hot in a bikini). LOL But seriously. It took my boyfriend forever to get on this healthy lifestyle train. He recently lost 9 pounds, and now I’m like “Oh heck no! He can’t pass me up.” Shhh don’t tell him. Pity huh? But whatever works right?

3. Set a goal for yourself. This does not have to be a certain weight specifically. But if you wan’t to get toned legs, a lifted booty, flat abs or whatever you desire. Focus on that one thing. Research how to make these things come to pass and just do it.

4. Take progress pictures. It’s hard to see your body changing by just looking in the mirror everyday. Take pictures so that you can look back a month from now and really see your progress. Once you see that, you’ll be even more determined to keep going.

5. Have faith in yourself. You have to take the time out to motivate yourself. Know that you can do anything you set your mind to. Sometimes you have to keep repeating that until you finally believe. Look at all the success stories. Why can’t you have a success story too? Have faith in yourself, be optimistic, and just do the dang thing!

Hope this helps.
